SnapCaption Privacy Policy

The short version. SnapCaption sends a copy of the photo you choose to an AI service to write captions for it. That copy is stripped of location and other metadata first, and it isn't kept afterwards. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and nothing is sold or shared for marketing. Your captions stay on your device and, if you leave iCloud Backup on, in your own iCloud account.
This policy explains what SnapCaption ("we", "us") does with your information. It applies to the SnapCaption iOS app. If you disagree with it, please don't use the app. Questions: eltercerelias3@hotmail.com.
1. Photos and AI processing
This is the most important section, so it comes first.
When you tap Generate, the app:
- Makes a reduced-size copy of the photo (long edge capped at about 1024 pixels, re-encoded as JPEG).
- Strips the metadata. Re-encoding discards EXIF data, which includes GPS location, camera model, and the original timestamp. That information never leaves your device.
- Sends that copy over an encrypted connection to our server, which forwards it to Fireworks AI — a third-party AI provider — to be analysed.
- Receives caption suggestions and hashtags back, and shows them to you.
About that copy:
- We do not save it. It is held in memory only for as long as the request takes, and is never written to our database or our logs.
- Fireworks AI processes it to produce captions. Under our arrangement it is not retained after the response and is not used to train models.
- Your original photo never leaves your device. Only the reduced, metadata-stripped copy is transmitted.
Your permission is required
The app asks for your explicit permission before it sends any photo for analysis, and it will not generate captions until you grant it. You can withdraw that permission at any time in Settings › Privacy › AI Processing inside the app. Withdrawing it stops caption generation; it does not delete captions you've already made.
Please note
You choose which photo to submit. A photo can contain anything — faces, documents, private surroundings, information about other people. We don't seek out sensitive information, but we can't control what a submitted image contains. Only submit photos you're comfortable sending to an AI service for analysis. Please don't submit photos of other people without their agreement.
2. What else we collect

None of these identify you personally. We don't ask for your name, email address, phone number, or Apple ID, and we have no way to connect an installation identifier to a real person.
We do not use analytics, tracking, or advertising SDKs. We do not build profiles, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
3. Your captions and history
Captions you generate are saved on your device so you can find them again in the Library tab. Each entry stores the caption text, the hashtags, which platform and tone you chose, and a small thumbnail of the photo. Thumbnails never leave your device.
If iCloud Backup is switched on in the app (it is on by default), the caption text, hashtags, and your platform and tone preferences are copied to your own iCloud account so they appear on your other devices. Two things to be clear about:
- That data goes to your iCloud account, governed by Apple's privacy policy. We cannot see it or access it.
- Photos and thumbnails are never synced — they stay on the device that created them.
You can turn iCloud Backup off at any time in the app's Settings.
4. Who else is involved
We use a small number of service providers. We don't sell your information, and we don't share it for anyone else's marketing.
- Fireworks AI — analyses submitted photos to generate captions.
- Cloudflare — runs the server that handles requests and stores the usage counters described above.
- Apple — handles subscription purchases, device verification (DeviceCheck), and iCloud storage.
These providers are based in the United States, so information sent to them is processed there. If we're ever involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, information may transfer as part of that; we'd update this policy if so. We may also disclose information where the law requires it.
5. How long things are kept
- Submitted photos: not retained. Held only for the duration of the request.
- Captions and history: kept until you delete them or remove the app. Free accounts keep the most recent 20 generations; subscribers keep 500. Items you've saved or pinned are never removed automatically.
- Free-usage counter: kept indefinitely, tied to the installation identifier. This is deliberate — it's what stops the free allowance being reset by deleting and reinstalling the app. The same applies to the flag Apple stores via DeviceCheck.
- Subscriber rate-limit counters: automatically deleted after roughly two days.
6. Your choices and how to delete data
- Withdraw AI permission: Settings › Privacy › AI Processing, inside the app.
- Delete individual captions: swipe on any entry in the Library tab.
- Stop iCloud syncing: turn off iCloud Backup in the app's Settings.
- Delete everything on the device: delete the app. This removes all local captions and thumbnails.
- Delete the iCloud copy: iOS Settings › your name › iCloud › Manage Account Storage.
- Manage or cancel a subscription: iOS Settings › your name › Subscriptions.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or object to the processing of your personal information. Because we hold no information that identifies you, there is usually nothing for us to look up — but write to us at eltercerelias3@hotmail.com and we'll help. If you're in the EEA or UK and think we're handling your information unlawfully, you may complain to your national data protection authority.
SnapCaption has no user accounts, so there is no account to close.
7. Children
SnapCaption is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. By using the app you confirm you are at least 18, or that you are a parent or guardian consenting on behalf of a minor in your care. If you believe a child has submitted information to us, contact us and we will delete what we can.
8. Security
All communication between the app and our server uses encrypted connections (HTTPS). The installation identifier is stored in the iOS Keychain. We keep the amount of information we hold deliberately small, which is the most effective protection available. That said, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security.
9. Do Not Track
We don't track you, so there is nothing for a Do Not Track signal to switch off.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. The date at the top always reflects the current version. If we make a material change to how photos are handled — for example changing AI provider — the app will ask for your permission again before sending any further photos.
